Set up shipping before your sell

Whatnot Support Whatnot Support

Before your first sale on Whatnot, take a few minutes to review your shipping setup.

By default, buyers are charged shipping automatically at checkout. When your settings and shipping profiles are set up correctly:

  • Buyers see accurate shipping costs
  • Labels generate correctly
  • Bundling works as expected

Reviewing your setup ahead of time helps you avoid last-minute fixes and unexpected shipping charges.

In this guide, you’ll learn:

How shipping works on Whatnot

Shipping on Whatnot depends on how an item is sold and how it’s listed.

Live show orders

For live shows, shipping is based on:

Together, these determine:

Note: Some shipping services are only available for live show orders and may depend on the item’s category or shipping profile. For example, USPS First-Class Mail Letter, Flat Rate, and Media Mail  in the US.

Orders placed outside of shows

Orders placed outside of shows don’t use your Seller Hub shipping settings.

Instead, shipping is based on:

  • The shipping profile selected for the product
  • The most cost-effective eligible shipping service

What to review before you sell

You can think of your shipping setup as three layers. Reviewing each one helps ensure smooth checkout and fulfillment.

1. Your default shipping settings in Seller Hub

Your Seller Hub shipping settings are the foundation for all future shows.

From Seller Hub, you can choose:

These settings apply automatically to future shows unless you change them for a specific show.

Note: International shipping is automatically enabled for eligible buyers and can’t be turned off in your settings.

2. Shipping settings for individual shows

Each show starts with your Seller Hub defaults, but you can customize shipping when you schedule a show.

For example, you might:

These changes apply only to that show and future instances if the show is recurring.

3. Shipping profiles for your products

Every product uses a shipping profile, whether it’s sold during a show or outside of a show.

Shipping profiles:

  • Define the item’s packed weight and dimensions
  • Influence which shipping services are available
  • Control how items bundle together

Whatnot may suggest a profile based on the item’s category or weight, but you can create a custom shipping profile if your item needs special handling.

Tip: Include packaging weight in your shipping profile to avoid delivery issues and extra costs.

If you need to make a change after a sale

If shipping details need to be corrected after an order is placed, you can edit the shipment before handing the package to the carrier.

This updates or replaces the shipping label with the correct information. While changes are possible after a sale, reviewing your settings ahead of time is the easiest way to keep shipping simple and cost-effective.
