You can adjust shipment details any time after a buyer makes a purchase and before you drop off the package. This can help fix things like a weight change, a missed bundle, or a packaging issue if something didn’t go as planned.
Adjustments help make sure your label matches the actual package. If it doesn’t, the shipment could be delayed, returned to sender, or charged extra postage.
Getting shipment details right helps avoid delivery issues and keeps your account in good standing. Repeated problems with inaccurate shipment details may lead to account action under Whatnot’s What Actions We Take policy.

What counts as a shipping adjustment
A shipping adjustment is any update to shipment details after a buyer makes a purchase or after you run a giveaway.
You might need to make an adjustment if:
- The weight or size of the package changed
- You need to unbundle items so they ship separately
- You’re bundling multiple purchases into one shipment
- You want to switch shipping methods (e.g. from Ground Advantage to Flat Rate)
- You need to add extras, like insurance or signature confirmation
How much shipping adjustments cost
Shipping costs are charged at the time of sale. If you change shipment details after the sale, you might need to pay the difference, but not always.
There are 3 types of adjustments:
- Some are always free
- Some are free up to 5 times per week
- Some always result in a charge
While making an adjustment, you’ll review whether an adjustment is free or has a cost before you save your changes.
If the new label costs more than the original, the difference will be deducted from your account balance and shown in your Ledger. If the adjustment costs less, Whatnot won’t issue a refund.
Costs depend on what you're changing and where you're shipping from. Check regional adjustment rules to see what applies to you.
Shipping adjustments by region
Adjustment types and costs vary depending on where you're shipping from.
For sellers in the US
Always free
These adjustments are always free unless Whatnot identifies abuse:
- Weight changes within the same USPS pricing tier
- Under 1 lb: e.g. 4 oz → 8 oz (Ground Advantage or Priority Mail)
- Between 1–5 lbs: e.g. 2 lb → 4 lb
- Weight changes for Flat Rate Boxes, if Flat Rate was applied before the sale or show (e.g. 3 lb → 15 lb still ships Flat Rate)
- Bundling shipments, when the combined label cost is less than two separate ones
Free up to 5 per week
You can make up to 5 of these adjustments for free each week. Your free allowance resets every Sunday at 7 PM ET.
After that, you’ll be charged the cost difference for each additional adjustment.
- Weight increases across tiers:
- From under 1 lb → 1–5 lbs (e.g. 4 oz → 2 lb)
- From 1–5 lbs → over 5 lbs (up to 5 lb increase, e.g. 2 lb → 6 lb)
- From over 5 lbs → higher weight (up to 5 lb increase, e.g. 7 lb → 10 lb)
- Unbundling shipments, when the cost of separate labels is higher than the original bundled label
- Increasing dimensions to:
- Over 1 cubic foot (1,728 in³)
- Any dimension over 22 inches
- Opting out of Flat Rate, if Flat Rate was applied before the sale or show
e.g. switching from a 6 lb Flat Rate label to a 6 lb Ground Advantage label - Seller-initiated upgrade from First-Class Mail Letter (FCML) to Ground Advantage or Priority Mail
Always charged
These changes are not eligible for free adjustments:
- Adding shipping extras, like insurance or signature confirmation
- Weight increases over 5 lbs in a single adjustment (e.g. 3 lb → 10 lb or 7 lb → 13 lb)
- Weight changes from under 1 lb to over 5 lbs (e.g. 4 oz → 6 lb)
- Increasing dimensions to over 2 cubic feet
- Generating a new label, after one has already been created
For sellers outside the US
You can make up to 5 free shipping adjustments per week. This free allowance resets every Monday at 12:01 AM UTC.
After you use your free adjustments, you’ll be charged the difference for any adjustments that increase the cost of shipping.
What counts as an adjustment:
- Increasing the weight or size of a shipment after the sale
- Switching to a more expensive shipping method
This applies to both domestic and international shipments.
How to make a shipping adjustment
You can update shipping details anytime before you drop off the package.
Note: You can only make shipping adjustments on whatnot.com, not in the app.
To make a shipping adjustment:
- Sign in to whatnot.com
- Click your profile icon
- Under the Selling tab, open Seller Hub
- On the left, open the Shipments page
- Find and select the shipment you want to edit
- On the right, click Edit Shipping Details (before generating a label) or Generate New Label
- Update the shipment details
- Scroll down to Shipping Costs > Pending Adjustments to review any added costs
- Click Save (if you haven’t created a label) or Generate New Label
If you haven’t created a label yet, one will be generated after your update. If you already created a label, it will be replaced. Don’t use the old label—it’ll be void and may cause delivery issues.

Tips for avoiding adjustments
Most adjustments can be avoided by setting accurate shipping details up front:
- Weigh your items before listing (including packaging)
- Choose accurate shipping profiles for each product
- Use custom profiles for repeat items or bundling control
- Double-check your default shipping settings before listing products or going live
