Before buyers can purchase your items, you'll need to create product listings. A listing describes what you're selling and how buyers can purchase it.
This guide explains the different ways to sell your items, where buyers can find them, and how to create and manage individual product listings.
Tip: You can upload listings in bulk using the Shopify integration or by importing a CSV file.

Before you create a listing
Before creating a listing, decide:
- How you'll sell your item
- Where people can purchase it
- When listing from a show, choose a Quality Listing or Temporary Listing
Choose how you’ll sell your item
| Listing format | What it does | Best for | Optional features |
| Buy It Now (BIN) | Buyers purchase your item immediately at a fixed price. |
|
|
| Auction | Buyers compete by placing bids during a live show. You choose the starting bid and auction duration. |
|
|
| Giveaway | Offer an item for free during a live show. Whatnot randomly selects an eligible winner. You cover shipping costs. |
|
|
Choose where buyers can purchase your item
Listings can appear in one or both of these places:
- Profile Shop: Your storefront on your profile where buyers can browse and purchase eligible Buy It Now listings anytime. Listings sold outside of live shows are sometimes also referred to as Marketplace listings.
- Live Shop: The store for a specific show where buyers can browse items you've assigned to the show before it starts and purchase eligible listings while you're live.
Where your listing appears depends on how you create it and whether you reserve it for a live show.
| Listing format | Profile Shop | Live Shop |
| Buy It Now | ✓ By default | — |
| Buy It Now + Reserve for Live | — | ✓ |
| Auction | — | ✓ By default |
| Giveaway | — | ✓ By default |
Tip: By default, Buy It Now listings appear in your Profile Shop. Turning on Reserve for Live moves the listing to your Live Shop instead. If you want the same item available in both places, create it without reserving it for live, then import it into your show later.
Choose a listing type (show listings only)
If you create a listing from an upcoming or active show, you'll choose between two listing types.
| Listing type | What it does | Best for |
| Quality Listing | A reusable listing that includes photos, descriptions, and detailed product information. It remains available after your show ends. |
|
| Temporary Listing | A quick listing with only basic information. It only appears in the assigned show and expires when the show ends. |

Adding your listing details
The information you'll need to provide depends on your listing format, listing type, and product category.
Product details
Category
Choose the category that best matches your item.
Photos or videos
Add clear photos that show your item's condition.
If available on your account:
- You can upload videos up to 30 seconds long.
- You can scan a barcode or slab to speed up listing creation.
Title
Write a clear, descriptive title so buyers can quickly understand what you're selling.
Tip: Descriptive titles and relevant keywords can help buyers find your item in search on Whatnot.
Description
Include important details buyers should know about your item.
Condition
Choose the option that best describes your item's condition so buyers know what to expect.
Quantity
If you have multiple quantities of the same item, enter how many are available.
Product variants
If your item comes in multiple options, such as different sizes or colors, add those variants.
SKU
Your own product identifier. You choose the format—there’s no required structure.
A SKU can help you:
- Match packed items to orders faster. Your SKU prints on the packing slip, so buyers may see it too.
- Reconcile sales with your own inventory system. SKU appears as its own column in your Weekly Orders Report.
- Re-upload or update listings in bulk. SKU is a matching column in CSV import.
Note: You can’t change a SKU once a listing has sold.
Cost Per Item
The cost of this item to you. Whatnot doesn’t share this with buyers, so it’s only visible to you. Entering it lets you see per-item profit ("Cost of Goods") in your Weekly Orders Report.
Shipping
Shipping Profile
Choose the Shipping Profile that matches your item's packed weight and/or size.
Tip: Include the weight of your packaging when selecting a Shipping Profile. An accurate Shipping Profile helps determine shipping costs and the shipping label used for each order. Learn more.
Restricted items
Based on carrier restrictions, indicate whether your item contains hazardous materials, such as lithium batteries, fragrances, or nail polish.
Pricing
The pricing fields depend on how you're selling the item.
Buy It Now (BIN)
Required:
- Price
Optional:
- Accept offers: Let buyers send offers instead of paying the listed price.
- Flash Sale: Temporarily discount your listing during a live show.
- Reserve for Live: Make the listing available only during a show.
Auction
Required:
- Starting Bid
- Reserve for Live (automatically selected)
Optional:
- Sudden Death: End the auction immediately when the timer reaches zero, so additional bids don’t extend the time.
Tip: You'll choose auction settings, such as Auction Duration and Counter Bid Time, when you start the auction during your show. Learn more.
Save a listing as a draft
Not ready to publish your listing? Select Save Draft while creating it. You can come back and finish it later.
Note:
- Once you publish a listing, you can't convert it back to a draft. To hide a published listing from Shoppers, deactivate it instead.
- Drafts aren't available for listings created directly from a Show's Live Shop.
Publish your draft when you're ready.
Manage your listings
Go to Seller Hub > Inventory in the app or on whatnot.com to manage your listings. From there, you can:
- Edit listings.
- Publish drafts.
- Deactivate, reactivate, or delete listings.
- Add listings to upcoming or live Shows.
- Manage multiple listings at once.
