On Whatnot, many of you sell locally but still incur shipping time and costs for these nearby buyers. With Free Pickup, buyers won’t need to pay for shipping when they make a Free Pickup purchase, and they’ll receive their orders from you in person. Plus, no need to wait around for something to be shipped; they can even pick it up from you same-day.  This is especially great for bulky or difficult-to-ship items.

Eleven Things to Know About Free Pickup

  • We recommend arranging pickup at a brick-and-mortar store or public space. See this article for more best practices on arranging pickup.
  • Pickup is supported for live auctions and Buy It Now purchases made during a show. Support for marketplace listings is coming soon.
  • Buyers can select pickup for purchases made on iOS and Android only. Web support is coming soon.
  • Make sure you have DMs enabled. It is very likely buyers will message you to help coordinate pickup.
  • Neither buyers nor sellers will have to pay for shipping when buyers make a free pickup purchase.
  • Buyers are instructed to pick up their order within 7 days.  
    • Within 7 days for orders that have not yet been picked up, the buyer can request a cancellation, which is at the seller’s discretion per Whatnot’s normal cancellation policy.  
    • If the seller doesn't confirm pickup, it will be automatically confirmed after 7 days.
    • Orders that have not been picked up within 7 days will be marked as complete, and the buyer should go through the normal Get Help flow for support.
  • Pickup orders will not be counted towards your average-ship-time.
  • If you have Early Payout, you’ll be paid out when you generate a pickup label. Otherwise, you’ll be paid out when the order is marked as picked up.
  • You will need to talk about Free Pickup with your buyers. We ask that you mention that you are offering Free Pickup throughout the show, and surface it to your buyers on social media.
  • Buyers may request cancellation prior to pickup or within 7 days of purchase. Just like with items shipped through the app, you are not required to accept the cancellation. After pickup or 7 days, the buyer should contact our seller support team to help resolve the issue.

Enabling Free Pickup

A few things to note on enabling Free Pickup:

  1. Free pickup must be enabled in the Whatnot mobile app:
  2. Once you enable Free Pickup, it will be enabled as an option by default for all shows
  3. You can also toggle the option on/off per-show by going into the show settings and tapping ‘Free Pickup’ under shipping settings

On iOS

  1. Tap your profile
  2. Tap to profile menu
  3. Tap Seller Hub
  4. Tap Shipping
  5. Tap Free Pickup
  6. Toggle on “Enable Free Pickup” and fill in your pickup address* and instructions (e.g., “Please pick up your order between 9-5PM on weekdays”)**

On Android

  1. Tap your profile
  2. Tap to profile menu
  3. Tap Shipping
  4. Tap Free Pickup
  5. Toggle on “Enable Free Pickup” and fill in your pickup address and instructions (e.g., “Please pick up your order between 9-5PM on weekdays”)**

On Web

Free Pickup can only be enabled on iOS and Android right now. Web support is coming soon.

Educating Buyers

Free Pickup is available for purchases made on iOS and Android.  Web support is coming soon.

When you’re running your show, please mention Free Pickup  so buyers know that it’s an option, and ask them to update to the latest version of the iOS or Android apps in order to see it.

Buyers can select Free Pickup in two ways:

  1. For auctions: During the show, buyers can tap on the Wallet icon and select Free Pickup under Delivery Method. This will then be the buyer’s default option for orders in your show.
    1. Buyers must select pickup from the wallet before winning an auction. Only purchases made after the this setting is updated will use Free Pickup by default
  2. For Buy it Now: When making a Buy it Now purchase during a show, buyers can select Free Pickup under Delivery Method at checkout.

Pickup settings are saved for future streams with that seller.  So if a buyer selects pickup in your show, pickup will be the default delivery method for that buyer in future shows.

Fulfilling Free Pickup Orders

When a buyer places a Free Pickup order, they’ll receive pickup instructions in an email along with a unique pickup order code.  On the Order Details Page, they can also find pickup instructions, the pickup code, and a QR code that you can scan to confirm the pickup.

To confirm pickup, there are two options:

  1. Tap “Confirm Pickup” on the Order Details Page in the Whatnot app or via Seller Hub on web and enter the buyer’s pickup order code, OR
  2. Scan the buyer’s QR code, which will link you directly to the pickup confirmation screen.

Payouts:

  • If you have Early Payout, you will be paid out once you generate the pickup label
  • Otherwise, you will be paid out when you confirm pickup, or 7 days after the order was placed, whichever comes first.

Cancellations

Buyers are instructed to pick up their order within 7 days.
