In most cases, sellers must use Whatnot-generated shipping labels. In certain situations, approved sellers can use their own shipping label (BYOL). 

In this article: 

Can I use my own shipping label (BYOL)? 

BYOL is only available in limited situations.

You may be eligible if you’re:

  • Shipping from France using Colissimo or Mondial Relay (for international orders)
  • Shipping from Germany using DHL
  • Selling in the Wholesale category (Pallets, Case Packs & Bundles) 

If you meet one of these criteria, contact Support to request access to BYOL.

Note: BYOL is only available to approved sellers. If you use your own label without approval, your order status may not update correctly and your payout could be delayed.

How do I use my own label?

Once you’re approved for BYOL, you can purchase your own shipping labels and manually enter tracking for each shipment in Seller Hub on whatnot.com. 

Make sure you enter valid tracking for every order you ship using your own label. 

You’ll still need to ship within 2 business days of the sale, in line with our Shipping Policy.

To enter tracking for a shipment:

  1. From whatnot.com, open the the Shipments page in seller Hub.
  2. Filter by Needs Label.
  3. Select the shipment.
  4. Under Shipping Actions, copy the buyer’s address.
  5. Buy a trackable shipping label from your carrier (untracked shipping isn’t allowed). 
  6. After purchasing a label, return to the Shipments page. 
  7. Find and select the shipment. 
  8. Under Shipping Actions, click Enter your own tracking code

Note: You can’t switch back to a Whatnot-generated label after entering a tracking code.

What happens after I enter the tracking code? 

  • Earnings and payout timing: Once you enter tracking, your earnings begin processing. 
    • Early Payout: Earnings start processing immediately.
    • Standard payout: Earnings begin processing 7 days later. 
    • After your earnings process and appear in your Whatnot balance, you can start a payout.
  • Delivery status: The order is automatically marked as delivered 2 weeks after tracking is added.

How do shipping costs work with BYOL? 

  • At checkout: Shipping is charged based on your shipping settings. Using BYOL doesn’t change what the buyer sees or pays at checkout.
  • Once you enter your tracking code: You will be remitted the shipping amount collected as part of your payout (minus a small fee that helps cover operational costs for providing shipping services including Smart Bundling and Flat Rate shipping). This payout helps cover the cost of the label you purchased.
  • If your label costs more: If the label you buy costs more than the shipping amount collected at checkout, you’re responsible for the difference. Whatnot doesn’t reimburse shipping overages.
  • For giveaways: This same process applies to giveaways you ship with your own label.
