In most cases, sellers should use Whatnot-generated shipping labels. In limited situations, approved Sellers can use their own label—also known as BYOL.
In this article:
Can I use my own shipping label (BYOL)?
BYOL is only available in specific cases.
You may be eligible if you’re:
- Shipping from France using Colissimo or Mondial Relay (for international orders)
- Shipping from Germany using DHL
- Selling in the Wholesale category (Pallets, Case Packs & Bundles)
If you meet one of these criteria, contact Support to request access to BYOL.
Note: BYOL is only available to approved Sellers. Using your own label without approval may delay your payout or prevent order updates.
How do I use my own label?
Once approved, you can purchase your own shipping labels, then enter tracking in Seller Hub on whatnot.com.
You must:
- Enter valid tracking for every order.
- Ship within two business days of the sale, in line with our Shipping Policy.
To enter tracking for a shipment:
- From whatnot.com, open the the Shipments page in seller Hub.
- Filter by Needs Label.
- Select the shipment.
- Under Shipping Actions, copy the buyer’s address.
- Buy a trackable shipping label from your carrier (untracked shipping isn’t allowed).
- After purchasing a label, return to the Shipments page.
- Find and select the shipment.
- Under Shipping Actions, click Enter your own tracking code
Note: You can’t switch back to a Whatnot-generated label after entering a tracking code.
What happens after I enter the tracking code?
-
Getting paid: Once you enter tracking, your earnings begin processing.
- Early Payout: Earnings begin processing right away.
- Standard payout: Earnings begin processing after 7 days.
- Once processed, funds appear in your Whatnot balance and are available for payout.
- Delivery status: Orders are automatically marked as delivered two weeks after tracking is added.
How do shipping costs work with BYOL?
At checkout: Shipping costs are based on your shipping settings. BYOL doesn’t change what buyers see or pay.
After entering tracking: You’ll receive the shipping amount collected at checkout as part of your payout, minus a small fee that supports shipping features like Smart Bundling and Flat Rate shipping.
If your label costs more than the shipping amount charged at checkout: You’re responsible for the difference. Whatnot doesn’t cover additional shipping costs.
Giveaways: The same process applies to giveaway shipments.
