Bring Your Own Label (BYOL)

Whatnot Support Whatnot Support

Most sellers are required to use Whatnot-generated shipping labels. However, if you’re in a supported location, you may be eligible to Bring Your Own Label (BYOL) when needed.

On this page:

Can I use my own shipping label (BYOL)?

In most cases, you’ll need to use a Whatnot-generated label, but there are a few exceptions.

You may be eligible to use your own label if you're:

  • Shipping from France – with Colissimo or Mondial Relay (for international orders)

  • Shipping from Germany – with DHL

  • Selling in the Wholesale category (Pallets, Case Packs & Bundles)

To request BYOL for the cases above, you will need to write into support.

Note: BYOL is only supported in the locations and cases listed above. Using BYOL in unsupported locations can cause tracking errors and payout delays.

How to use your own label

Note: You can only use your own label on web (whatnot.com), not in the app.

  1. Sign in to whatnot.com
  2. Go to the Shipments page and filter by Needs Label
  3. (Optional) Filter by a specific live show or marketplace to find your shipment
  4. Select the shipment
  5. Under Shipping Actions, copy the buyer’s address
  6. Buy a trackable shipping label from your carrier (untracked shipping isn’t allowed)
  7. Return to the Shipments page
  8. Find and select the shipment
  9. Under Shipping Actions, click Enter your own tracking code
  10. Drop off the package within 2 days of the sale

After you enter your tracking code

  • Early Payout: Your earnings and the shipping refund begin processing immediately.

  • Standard payout: Your earnings and the shipping refund begin processing 7 days later.

  • Delivery status: The order is automatically marked as delivered after 2 weeks.

  • No switching: Once you’ve entered your own tracking code, the shipment stays on BYOL. You can’t change back to a Whatnot label.

Understand shipping costs with BYOL

  • At checkout: Whatnot still charges the standard shipping fee, but this is refunded once you add your own tracking code. Depending on your shipping settings, this fee may be paid by you or by the buyer.

  • Adding your label: Buy your own shipping label and enter the tracking number in Whatnot. Once you do, the standard shipping fee is automatically refunded to the person(s) that paid it. The same applies to giveaways.

  • Extra costs: If your own label costs more than the standard shipping fee that was charged, you’ll cover the difference. Whatnot doesn’t reimburse shipping overages.
