Free Pickup, also known as Local Pickup, is a delivery option you can offer during your shows that lets buyers pick up their orders from you in person instead of having them shipped. It saves you time, avoids shipping costs, and works especially well for bulky or heavy items.
Neither you nor the buyer pay shipping costs when Free Pickup is used.

When Free Pickup is an option
- Free Pickup works only for purchases made during your shows, but you must turn it on before the show starts
- Works for both auctions and Buy It Now purchases during those shows
- Sellers and buyers need to be on the Whatnot app (iOS or Android) (not available on web yet)
- There’s no distance limit; any buyer willing to meet you can choose to use it
How to use Free Pickup as a seller
Step 1: Enable Free Pickup
You can turn on Free Pickup for all future shows or for a single show.
Turn on Free Pickup for future shows
- In the Whatnot app, tap Seller Hub.
- In the top-right, open the menu (☰).
- Scroll down to Shipping Settings.
- Tap Free Pickup, then toggle it on.
- Enter your pickup address and instructions (e.g. “Available weekdays 9am–5pm”).
Free Pickup will be available for every show you host, unless you turn it off for a specific show(s).
Turn on Free Pickup for a specific show
- In the Whatnot app, tap Seller Hub.
- Tap Shows.
- Find and open the show you want to change.
- Tap … More, then Edit Show.
- Scroll down to Shipping Settings and expand.
- Tap Free Pickup, then toggle it on.
- Enter your pickup address and instructions (e.g. “Available weekdays 9am–5pm”).
Free Pickup will be an option during that show. If the show’s recurring, it’ll apply to future instances.
Keep in mind:
- You must enable Free Pickup before your show starts.
- Your pickup address is public, so viewers will be able to see it. Only use an address you’re comfortable sharing. Learn more about best practices.
- You can’t switch delivery methods to or from Free Pickup after purchase.
Step 2: Educate your buyers
Buyers must select Free Pickup before they purchase.
To encourage buyers:
- Mention Free Pickup as an option during your show and in your Show Notes
- Share on social media that you offer Free Pickup
- Point buyers to this guide: Use Free Pickup as a buyer
How buyers select Free Pickup:
- Auctions: Tap Wallet > Delivery Method > Free Pickup before bidding
- Buy It Now: Select Free Pickup under Delivery Method at checkout
Once a buyer selects Free Pickup for your show, it’ll stay as their default delivery method in your future shows with them, unless they change it.
⚠️ If buyers forget to select Free Pickup:
- The order defaults to shipping
- You can’t change the delivery method yourself
- Whatnot Support may be able to switch an order to Free Pickup in exceptional circumstances, but this is a back-up option and not guaranteed
Step 3: Fulfill a Free Pickup order
Buyers must pick up their order within 7 days.
After purchase, buyers receive:
- Pickup instructions
- A unique Pickup Code
- A QR code (in-app only)
You’ll need one of these codes to confirm pickup.
To confirm pickup, you have two options:
- From Seller Hub on the app or whatnot.com, go to Orders > Order details > Confirm Pickup, then enter their code, or
- Scan their QR code
If pickup isn’t confirmed, the order’s automatically marked Complete after 7 days.
Note: Free Pickup orders don’t count toward your average ship time.
Cancellations and refunds
Within 7 days of purchase, buyers can request a cancellation. You can choose to accept or decline the request.
If the buyer doesn’t pick up within 7 days, the order is automatically marked Complete.
- If the buyer needs help after 7 days or after pickup, direct them to Whatnot Support.
When you get paid for Free Pickup orders
Your earnings from Free Pickup orders start processing:
- Early Payout sellers: Once you generate a pickup label.
- Standard payout sellers: 3 days from order creation or after pickup, whichever comes later.
After your earnings process, you'll still need to start a payout, which typically takes 1–2 days to reach your chosen payout method.
Note: Free Pickup orders aren’t eligible for the New Sellers Sales Match Bonus.

Update your Free Pickup address
You can change your Free Pickup address anytime.
When you update your pickup address, it’ll automatically apply to all shows and pickup orders, both existing and future ones. Right now, it’s not possible to set different pickup addresses per order or per show.
To update your Free Pickup address:
- In the Whatnot app, tap Seller Hub at the bottom of the screen.
- In the top-right, open the menu (☰).
- Scroll down to Shipping Settings.
- Tap Free Pickup
- Under Location, select your Pickup Address.
You can choose from any address already saved to your Whatnot account and edit those from your account settings.
Your pickup address is public and visible to buyers in your shows. Use an address you’re comfortable sharing.
Stay safe during pickup
- Arrange pickup at your store or in a public place
- Keep all pickup arrangements and in Whatnot DMs:
- We can’t resolve disputes if communication happens off-platform
- Make sure DMs are turned on in your account settings
- Handle customer service issues (refunds, cancellations) through Whanot
