How to become a Verified Buyer

Sellers can require buyers to be Whatnot Verified Buyers in order to bid or enter giveaways in their shows.

To qualify as a Verified Buyer, you must meet one of the following qualifications:

• Have a history of successful purchases on Whatnot
• Authorize a temporary hold on your account, usually $10
  • Note: the payment hold amount can vary by show. We may finalize this charge if you place a misleading or troll bid in violation of our Terms of Service or Community Guidelines. Otherwise, the hold will be released in 24 hours, but it may take a few days for your bank to process the release.
• Certain shows may require you to meet both of these qualifications, or re-verify your payment method, before you can bid or enter giveaways

Even if you don’t meet the criteria above, you’ll still be able to watch shows that require you to be a Verified Buyer, though you won’t be able to place bids or enter giveaways.

Steps on how to become a verified buyer: 

• If a show requires you to verify your payment method, you’ll see a screen that allows you to agree to a temporary payment hold 
• You can choose to dismiss the notification (hit “Another Time”), but if you want to bid in the show you’ll need to agree to the payment hold 
• If you haven’t verified your payment method but try to bid, you’ll have another opportunity to verify your payment
• Certain shows may require you to re-verify your payment method, even if you’ve already verified in the past
