You can use Klarna or Affirm to split eligible Whatnot purchases into multiple payments. Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) is available for Buy It Now (BIN) purchases made in the Whatnot app.

When Buy Now, Pay Later is available 

You’ll see BNPL as a payment option if your purchase meets all of these conditions:

  • You're using the Whatnot app (iOS or Android)
  • You're purchasing a Buy It Now (BIN) item
  • The item meets the minimum price
    • Klarna: $/£/€10 or more
    • Affirm: $50 or more (US only)
  • The item isn’t in a restricted category
    • Klarna: Not available for Knives & Hunting
    • Affirm: Not available for Coins & Money, Coins & Bullion, Paper Money & Currency, or Knives & Hunting
  • You’re located in a supported region
    • Klarna: US, UK, Canada, Austria, Belgium, Germany, France, Netherlands
    • Affirm: US only

Note: BNPL isn’t available for purchases made on whatnot.com.

How to use Buy Now, Pay Later 

  1. Tap Buy Now on an eligible item in the Whatnot app
  2. Go to the Payment section and expand if collapsed
  3. Under Pay for this item over time, choose Klarna or Affirm
  4. Tap Continue with Klarna / Affirm
  5. If prompted, enter your payment information
  6. Tap Pay [amount] to continue to Klarna or Affirm
  7. Enter your Klarna or Affirm account info
  8. Choose a payment plan
  9. Review your plan details and confirm your purchase 

After checkout, you can view your order details in Activity > Purchases on Whatnot. 

Refunds

If your order qualifies for a refund under Buyer Protection, and your request is approved, Klarna or Affirm will update your payment schedule and/or issue a refund based on how much you’ve already paid.

FAQs

Why don’t I see BNPL as an option? 

If you don’t see the option to pay over time, your purchase may not be eligible.

Why am I seeing a recurring charge from Whatnot?

If you used Klarna or Affirm, it might be an installment payment. You can view your payment plan from your Klarna or Affirm account. 

Will BNPL affect my credit score?

It depends on the provider and the payment plan. Visit Klarna or Affirm to learn more. 

Can I change the payment method I used for BNPL?

No. You can’t change the payment method on Whatnot once you confirm your Klarna or Affirm payment plan. You may be able to update the card or bank account linked to your plan directly in Klarna or Affirm. 

Why am I not seeing my BNPL order in my order history?

If you can't find a BNPL order in your Activity > Purchases view, it's likely because the payment failed for that order. You won't be charged for this order, and the seller won't be expected to fulfill it. To learn more about why the payment failed, please contact Klarna or Affirm. 

Does BNPL approval mean my order was placed?

No. Klarna or Affirm approval happens before checkout finishes. Approval starts your financing agreement with them, but it doesn’t confirm a Whatnot order.

Your order is only complete if it appears in Whatnot under Activity > Purchases. If no order shows up, checkout didn’t finish, likely because someone else bought the item first before your payment went through. 

If you see a pending charge but no order, contact Klarna or Affirm to ask about that charge.
