Where required in the states and territories of the U.S., Whatnot collects sales taxes on behalf of sellers.
Whatnot calculates any applicable sales taxes (which vary from location to location, and item to item), charges the buyer, and remits the tax owed to the relevant tax authority.
This means that sellers on Whatnot are not required to collect or remit sales tax on their transactions. This applies even to states where sellers are otherwise required to collect sales tax.
Sellers may still have sales tax reporting requirements for which Whatnot takes no responsibility. Sellers should consult with a tax advisor to understand their sales tax registration and filing requirements.
