Tipping a Seller

There are many times that buyers would like to support a seller in more ways than purchasing items from their shop. Users can now support their favorite sellers by leaving them a tip using the Whatnot tipping feature.

Note: Tipping is only available:

• using the Whatnot mobile app (iOS and Android). 
• for sellers and buyers in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and France. 
• for sellers and buyers within the same country where tipping is supported.

Tipping Guidelines

• Users can tip between $1 and $100 per tip (or £1 and £100 per tip or €1 and €100 per tip) depending on their location.
• Tipping volume (per tipper) is limited to
  
  • $200 (or £200 or €200) or 10 tips maximum per seller per livestream.
  • A maximum of $500 (or £500 or €500) in total tips per day.
• Tipping is nonrefundable. 
• Buyers (tippers), in lieu of sellers, are charged the standard processing fees as applied to the selected tip amount, which can be viewed as added to the tip amount before finalizing the Transaction.
• Tipping is only allowed using the methods listed in this article. Sellers must not create shop listings specifically for tipping, and users should not buy any listing made specifically for tipping.
• Tips cannot be used to circumvent fees elsewhere on Whatnot. This includes using the tip function to facilitate the sale of products. Evidence of any systems or techniques to avoid fees will result in account action to both the buyer and seller. 
• Tip messages must follow Whatnot Community Guidelines. To report tip messages that are against the community guidelines, please use the reporting tool from the user’s profile.

Tipping a Seller

There are several ways to tip a seller:

• In a seller’s livestream, either from their shop or profile.
• Outside of a seller’s livestream, from their profile. 

Tipping a Seller in a Livestream

1. Open any livestream on your mobile device. 
2. Tap the Store icon in the bottom right corner.
   
3. Select Send a tip at the bottom of the screen
   .
4. Choose one of the provided tipping options. Options range between $1 and $100 (or £1 and £100 per tip or €1 and €100 per tip) depending on the location.
   Note: You cannot tip a custom amount. 
5. If you want to leave a note to the seller with your tip:
   1. Toggle on Add a thank you note.
   2. Add your note in the provided field.
      
      Note: Tip messages must follow our Community Guidelines.
      
6. Tap Next. 
7. Review the payment info and adjust your payment method if needed.
   Note: You can only use a credit card or Apple Pay to tip other sellers. Paypal or Google Pay are not allowed. 
8. Tap Send Tip. 

If the seller has tipping notifications turned on, a notification of your tip will pop up in the livestream chat, including the tip amount and the thank you note (if one was added).

You can also tip the seller by tapping on the seller’s username and selecting the Tip option from the sheet.

Tipping a Seller Outside of a Livestream

1. Open the Whatnot app on your mobile device.
2. Search for and go to the desired seller’s profile. 
3. Tap Tips under the seller’s profile description.
   
4. Choose one of the provided tipping options. Options range between $1 and $100 (or £1 and £100 per tip or €1 and €100 per tip) depending on the location.
   Note: You cannot tip a custom amount. 
5. If you want to leave a note for the seller along with your tip:
   1. Toggle on Add a thank you note.
   2. Add your note in the provided field.
      
6. Tap Next. 
7. Review the payment info and adjust your payment method if needed.

8. Tap Send Tip. 

The seller will receive an in-app notification of the tip once it’s successfully delivered. The seller will receive the thank you note in their DMs.

Viewing Your Tipping History

To view a history of all tips you’ve given to Whatnot sellers:

1. Open the Whatnot app on your mobile device.
2. Top the Profile icon in the bottom menu bar. 
3. Tap the Menu two-lines icon in the top right corner.
4. Select Purchases.
   
5. Scroll through purchase filters and select Tips.
   
   

In the tips purchase history, you can view who you’ve tipped and how much you’ve tipped them.
