Application Rejection Reasons

Whatnot Support Whatnot Support

If your application to sell on Whatnot is not approved here are some common reasons and tips on how to improve if you choose to reapply in the future. Remember, we evaluate every application holistically - these are the most common reasons we decide not to approve an application but are not an exhaustive list.

Please reach out to applications@whatnot.com if you need additional clarification regarding your application. Unless specified in the “Ineligible to Reapply” section below, you may attempt to reapply to Whatnot 30 days after your previous application decision.

Incomplete Application

The more requested information you provide in your application, the more likely you are to get approved. Your application may not have been approved due to missing 1 or more of the following pieces of information:

  • Missing or broken seller links (eBay, Mercari, Poshmark, online store, etc)
  • Photos/videos of inventory did not demonstrate sufficient quantity or quality to sell on Whatnot
  • Insufficient explanation about why you want to sell on Whatnot

How to improve: Ensure you are completing every field on the application (even the optional ones) and provide as much evidence of your selling experience, inventory, and motivation to join Whatnot as possible, in order for our team to evaluate your application.

Product Quantity

The amount of inventory showcased by the photos/videos and on your application may have been deemed not enough to go live consistently. How to improve: Increase your inventory or if you have more than you provided on your application, ensure that the photo/video you are attaching to your application is a good representation of the amount of inventory you have. We are looking for evidence of enough inventory to go live consistently, which we do not feel was represented by the photos/videos submitted in your application.

Product Quality

The photos/videos and other selling platform links provided on your application may have made it difficult to determine your inventory quality.  How to improve: Ensure that the photo or video you include shows the actual items you plan to sell. How the items are displayed is a good indicator of how the items will be presented during a live stream so pay special attention to how you’re showcasing your items.

Lack of Selling Experience

Your application may not be approved due to a lack of relevant selling experience on other platforms. How to improve: Establish a reputable selling history in your category and provide us with evidence (direct links to your business website, pictures/videos of offline sales experience, or profiles on other platforms like eBay, Mercari, etc.) that you have experience with e-commerce sales (ex. direct links to your business website or selling profiles on other platforms like eBay, Mercari, etc.)

Unsupported Country

Whatnot only supports US, Canadian, French, Austrian, Australian, Belgian, German, Netherlands or UK-based sellers at this time. We’ll be launching in more countries soon, stay tuned!

Unsupported Products

The inventory photos/videos and/or other selling platform links you submitted with your application are of products that are not currently supported on Whatnot. Please refer to this FAQ for guidance on what types of products can be sold on Whatnot. How to improve: Remove unsupported products from future applications and clearly state that you do not intend to sell products that violate Whatnot policy.
