Pinning a product during a live show

This article explains how sellers can pin a listing during a live show and what pinning does for viewers.

What pinning is

Pinning showcases one listing to everyone watching your live show. When a listing is pinned, viewers see its title, image, and price at the bottom of their screen. If the product is available to purchase, they can bid or buy directly from the pinned view.

Pinning is a great way to draw attention to the item you're talking about – for example, to build interest before starting its auction.

How to pin a product

On the app:

1. During your show, tap the Shop icon to open your show's shop.
2. Find the listing you want to feature from the Shop from the Auction or Buy Now tab
3. Pin the product:
   • Auctions: Tap pin icon
   • Buy Now: Tap Pin Product 

When you exit the shop view, you will see that product pinned in your live show.

On whatnot.com:

1. During show your, find the product you want to pin from the Auction or Buy Now tab in your live shop (left side)
2. Click Product Actions > Pin item

Note: When you start an auction, the product will be pinned automatically (if it is not pinned already).

Limitations

• Pinning doesn’t start an auction or flash sale – it only features the listing 
  • However, you can separately start an auction or start a flash sale from the pinned view
• You can only pin one product at a time
• You cannot pin a new product while an auction is running. You must wait for the auction to end
• Only the seller can pin a product listing; moderators cannot pin

How to unpin

On the app:

1. From your Shop , find the product that is pinned from the Auction or Buy Now tab. 
   • Hint - Look for the yellow pin button
2. To unpin:
   • Auction: tap the yellow pin icon
   • Buy Now: tap the Pinned button.

Once this pinned button or icon is gray, the product is no longer pinned.

On whatnot.com:

1. Find the product you want to unpin from the Auction or Buy Now tab in your live shop (left side)
2. Click Product Actions > Unpin Item

FAQs

Can buyers still buy a product if it’s not pinned? 

Yes, users can still purchase Buy Now products from your shop, even if these products are not pinned.

Do I need to first pin a product to start an auction?

No. While pinning a product before the auction starts is a good way to talk about the product before the auction starts, it’s not a prerequisite for starting an auction. 

When you start an auction from the shop, the product will be pinned automatically.

What happens if I have a Buy Now product pinned, but then I start an auction from the shop?

The Buy Now product will automatically unpin, and will be replaced by the pinned auction product.

Can you pin a giveaway?

No need. When a giveaway is started, users will automatically see the Enter Giveaway option at the top of their screen. This is distinct from pinning an auction or Buy Now product, which appears on the bottom of viewers’ screens.
