How buyer referrals work
Invite a new buyer to Whatnot using your referral link. Once they create an account and complete their first eligible purchase, both of you may receive referral credit.
Referral programs and credit amounts may vary by account, region, or promotion.
To check your current offer, open your Referral Hub by selecting the Gift icon on the Home screen.
What's an eligible purchase?
An eligible purchase is a completed order placed by a new buyer using a valid referral link.
Orders that are canceled, refunded, disputed, or otherwise ineligible under Whatnot policies won’t qualify.
A new buyer may only use one referral link or referral offer.
What do I get for referring a buyer?
Seller → New buyer referrals
When a seller refers a new buyer:
- The new buyer receives referral credit after signing up with the referral link
- The new buyer may also automatically follow the seller and see their shows prioritized for a limited time
- The referring seller receives credit after the buyer completes their first eligible purchase and the order is delivered
Buyer → New buyer referrals
When a buyer refers a new buyer:
- The new buyer receives referral credit after signing up with the referral link
- The referral amount is revealed during sign-up
- The referrer receives matching referral credit after the new buyer completes their first eligible purchase and the order is delivered
How can I use my referral credit?
Referral credit is automatically applied at checkout, and there’s no minimum spend requirement.
Credits can be used on purchases made in shows and outside of shows.
Referral credit applies to your order subtotal only, and can’t be used toward taxes, fees, shipping, offers, or Free Pickup orders.
Referral credit is issued in your local currency, and can only be used with sellers using the same currency.
Referral credits may expire 90 days after they’re issued.
Refer a buyer to Whatnot
You can invite new buyers to Whatnot by sharing your referral link.
- From the app or whatnot.com, select gift icon on the Home page
- Copy your Buyer Referral link
- Share your link
Note: Buyer Referral links and Seller Referral links are different. Be sure to copy the correct link you want to share.
Claim your Buyer Referral credit
If you’ve been referred to Whatnot as a buyer, your credit is issued after your create an account.
- Open the referral link
- Create a Whatnot account
- Verify your phone number
Complete your first eligible purchase and your credit will automatically apply at checkout
Check the status of your referrals
If you're the referrer, your credit is granted after the new buyer’s first eligible purchase is completed and successfully delivered.
- From the app or whatnot.com, select gift icon on the Home page
- From the Referrals tab, select View referral history
Tip: If you’re a seller, you can also open the Referrals page from Seller Hub to copy your share link or check your referral credit.
Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
What should I do if I received my credit in a different currency?
You’ll receive and spend credit based on your country. You can use USD in U.S. and Canadian Shows, GBP in U.K. Shows, and EUR in French and German Shows.
If your credit doesn’t match your currency, contact Support.
I joined Whatnot through a referral link but never received my credit.
Try tapping the referral link again. If you still don’t see your credit, contact Support.
What if I have a referral code?
Referral codes have been phased out and replaced with referral links. Older referral codes may only work for select promotions or previous referral campaigns.
If you have a code, you may apply it:
During a live show
- Tap the Wallet button in the bottom right.
- Enter the referral code in the Promotions field.
At checkout
- Go to checkout.
- Enter the referral code in the Promotions field.

Standard Buyer Referral Credits

These Buyer Referral Program Terms and Conditions apply when you qualify for and utilize the Standard Buyer Referral Credits Program.
This Whatnot Buyer Referral Program (“The Program”) allows you to earn promotional coupon credits (“Credits”) toward future Whatnot purchases by referring friends to become new users on Whatnot.
To participate, you must agree to these terms and conditions, which become part of our Terms of Use. Terms that are not defined here will have the same meaning given to them in the Terms of Use. These terms and conditions apply only to the Standard Buyer Referral Program and not any other referral program offered by Whatnot.
How to Earn Referral Credits
Existing Whatnot members who refer Eligible New Members (defined below) are eligible to earn Credits if:
- The Eligible New Member enters a referral code or clicks on a referral link to create a valid Whatnot account that complies with our Terms of Use; and
- The Eligible New Member completes a Qualifying Transaction .
An “Eligible New Member” is a new user who has never created a Whatnot account and creates a new Whatnot account using a referral link provided by an existing Whatnot user.
The maximum credit earned per person is $/£/€10,000 total.
Qualifying Transactions
A Qualifying Transaction has no minimum total value. A transaction is not a Qualifying Transaction if it is canceled at any time.
Redeeming Credits
Credits may only be redeemed in the Whatnot app or website.
Credits must be used within 90 days from the date they are issued, after which they may expire.
Referral Credits only apply to the subtotal of an order and do not cover shipping, fees, or taxes.
Sharing Referral Links
Referrals should only be used for personal and non-commercial purposes.
- Mass emailing
- Messaging people you do not know
- Using automated systems or bots to distribute referral links
Multiple Referrals
A referred friend may only use one referral link.
Severability
If any provision in these terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain enforceable.
Termination, Changes, and Limitations
Whatnot may suspend or terminate the Program or a user’s ability to participate at any time.
Updates to the Terms
We reserve the right to update these terms or terminate the Program at any time without prior notice.
Randomized Buyer Referral Credits

This Whatnot Referral Program (“The Program”) allows you to earn promotional coupon credits (“Credits”) toward future Whatnot purchases by referring friends to become new users on Whatnot.
How to Earn Referral Credits
Existing Whatnot members who refer Eligible New Members are eligible to earn Credits if:
- The Eligible New Member clicks on their referral link to create a valid Whatnot account.
- The Eligible New Member completes a Qualifying Transaction.
Eligible participants may receive randomized rewards between $/£/€10 and $/£/€200.
Qualifying Transactions
A Qualifying Transaction has no minimum total value.
Redeeming Credits
Credits may only be redeemed in the Whatnot app or website.
Credits expire 90 days after issuance.
