USPS First-Class Mail Letter (FCML), sometimes called Plain White Envelope (PWE) shipping, is a lower-cost way to ship small, lightweight items like trading cards and stickers.

Because buyers typically pay shipping on Whatnot, FCML can help keep shipping costs lower when an order qualifies. Eligible orders automatically ship using FCML.

What to expect with FCML 

FCML travels through USPS letter mail instead of as a package, so tracking works differently than it does for fully tracked shipments.

USPS doesn't track letter mail on its public website, so you won't see tracking updates on USPS.com. 

Whatnot is the only place to check your order status for FCML shipments. 

In your order details page, you may notice:

  • Limited tracking updates (In Transit, Delivered)
  • A message that says "First-Class Mail Letter tracking unavailable"

This is expected and doesn't mean there's an issue with your order.

If your FCML package is delayed 

FCML shipments typically arrive within 5–14 business days after they're shipped.

If your order hasn't arrived after 14 business days, get help with your purchase.

Which orders ship with FCML

FCML is only available for purchases made during live shows. Buy It Now and Marketplace purchases don't qualify.

An order ships with FCML when all of the following are true:

  • The item is in Trading Card Games, Sports Cards, or Stickers categories

  • The seller enabled FCML for that live show
  • The shipment is being sent within the U.S. (domestic orders only)
  • The total shipment weight is 3 oz or less
  • The total order value is $20 or less
  • The order contains five cards or fewer

If your order no longer qualifies for FCML, it automatically upgrades to a fully tracked shipping service, such as USPS Ground Advantage.

For example, adding items to a bundle may cause the shipment to exceed the FCML limits above. If that happens, you may be charged additional shipping costs.

How much FCML shipping costs 

FCML label prices currently range from $0.74 to $1.32, depending on package weight and current USPS rates, plus a small Whatnot service fee.

You'll see the exact shipping cost before checkout and in your receipt after purchase.
