How to sell in Gated Categories on Whatnot

Luxury bags & accessories are specialized, high-value purchases, so we approve sellers on a case-by-case basis. When reviewing applications we review a seller’s existing history on Whatnot, their experience selling luxury bags and accessories outside of Whatnot, their authentication expertise, and other considerations. Maintaining access to sell in Luxury Bags & Accessories: To maintain access to selling in the Luxury Bags & Accessories category, ensure your account complies with Whatnot’s Community Guidelines, including only selling authentic items and clearly representing the condition of items sold. If a seller is consistently selling non-luxury items in the Luxury Bags & Accessories category, we may remove Luxury Bags & Accessories access.

We are always working to improve the buyer experience and cultivate trust between buyers and sellers by allowing knowledgeable and policy-compliant sellers to sell in Gated Categories. By adding an extra layer of accountability for sellers in these categories, we create more opportunities for positive experiences for both sellers and buyers on the platform.

Sellers can check their eligibility status to sell in Gated Categories through Seller Status in the Whatnot mobile app. Here’s how to navigate to Seller Status:

A viewer can see whether a seller has access to sell in Gated Categories by tapping the seller’s username in a livestream and tapping “Report.” Buyers will see a section labeled “Seller’s Category Permissions” that shows which Gated Categories a seller has access to sell in. 

If you lose access to sell in a Gated Category, you can appeal by responding to the notification email we send you. Category approval isn't permanent. If your performance in the category no longer meets our standards, we'll remove access and let you know why.
