You can split eligible purchases into smaller payments with Klarna or Affirm in the Whatnot app. 

If Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) is available for your item, you’ll see it at checkout.

When it's available 

You’ll see Klarna or Affirm at checkout if:

  • You’re using the Whatnot app (BNPL isn’t available on whatnot.com)

  • You’re buying a Buy It Now (BIN) item

  • The item meets the minimum price:

    • Klarna: $/£/€10+

    • Affirm (US only): $50+

  • The item isn’t in a restricted category

    • Klarna: Not available for Knives & Hunting

    • Affirm: Not available for Coins & Money, Coins & Bullion, Paper Money & Currency, or Knives & Hunting

  • You’re located in a supported region:

    • Klarna: US, UK, Canada, Austria, Belgium, Germany, France, Netherlands

    • Affirm: US only

If you don’t see the option to pay over time, one of the conditions above likely isn’t met.

How to pay over time

  1. Tap Buy Now on an eligible item in the app
  2. Under Payment, choose Pay over time > Klarna or Affirm 
  3. Tap Continue with Klarna/Affirm 
  4. If prompted, enter your payment information
  5. Tap Pay [amount] to continue to Klarna or Affirm
  6. Enter your Klarna or Affirm account info
  7. Choose a payment plan
  8. Review your plan and confirm purchase 

After checkout, find your order in Activity > Purchases.

What happens if you get a refund

If your order qualifies for a refund under Buyer Protection and your request is approved, you won’t keep paying for the item. 

Klarna or Affirm will:

  • Adjust your remaining payments, or

  • Refund what you’ve already paid, depending on your plan

FAQs

Why don’t I see Buy Now, Pay Later as an option? 

If the option isn’t showing, your purchase likely doesn’t meet one of the eligibility requirements above (such as price minimum, location, or item category).

Why am I seeing a recurring charge from Whatnot?

If you used Klarna or Affirm, it may be one of your installment payments. You can view your full payment plan directly in your Klarna or Affirm account. 

Will BNPL affect my credit score?

It depends on the provider and the payment plan you choose. For details, visit Klarna or Affirm directly. 

Can I change the payment method I used for BNPL?

No. Once you confirm your Klarna or Affirm plan, you can’t change the payment method in Whatnot.

You may be able to update the card or bank account linked to your plan directly in your Klarna or Affirm account.  

I don’t see my BNPL order in Purchases. What happened?

If you don’t see the order in Activity > Purchases, the checkout likely didn’t finish.

In most cases, this means the payment didn’t go through, so the order wasn’t placed. You won’t be charged, and the seller isn’t expected to ship anything.

If you’d like more details about why the payment didn’t go through, reach out directly to Klarna or Affirm. 

Does BNPL approval mean my order was placed?

No. Approval from Klarna or Affirm happens before checkout fully finishes. Approval starts your financing agreement with them, but it doesn’t confirm a Whatnot order.

Your order is only confirmed if it appears in Whatnot under Activity > Purchases.

If you don’t see the order:

  • Checkout likely didn’t complete

  • The item may have sold to another buyer before your payment finished processing

If you see a pending charge but no order, contact Klarna or Affirm for help with that charge.
