Introducing Gems

Gems are a new virtual currency on Whatnot that reward buyers for being active. Buyers can earn Gems by completing challenges, and use them to unlock digital rewards like custom Jumbotrons (celebration animations for purchases), Reactions (double-tap during a live show to express how you feel), and incentives like Coupons.

How does Gems work

Earning Gems

Buyers can earn Gems by completing challenges. You can find available challenges in the Reward Hub (top right corner of the homepage, gift box icon) under the Challenges tab. Challenges change daily and may be personalized based on your activity on Whatnot.

Each challenge can be completed once per day. Challenge progress resets every day at 6:00 AM local time, and progress tracking may take up to 2 minutes to update. Once a challenge is completed, Gems are automatically added to your account.

Gems do not expire.

Spending Gems

Buyers can spend Gems in the Gem Store, which you can access from the Reward Hub (top right corner of the homepage, gift box icon) under the Gem Store tab.

Currently, the Gem Store offers three types of rewards: Jumbotrons, Reactions, and Coupons.

Jumbotrons are purchasing celebration animations. When you make a purchase during a live show, your Jumbotron will be displayed to everyone in the show, along with your name and avatar.

Once you purchase a Jumbotron, it is automatically applied and will be used for future purchases. If you want to switch to a different Jumbotron, you can open the management sheet in the live show (icon next to the chat box) and select the one you want to use.

All Jumbotron purchases are final and non-refundable.

Reactions are a fun way to express your feelings to sellers or other viewers during a live show. You can send a Reaction by double-tapping on an empty area of the live show, and everyone in the show will be able to see it.

Once purchased, a Reaction is automatically applied and will be used moving forward. To switch to a different Reaction, open the management sheet in the live show (icon next to the chat box) and select the one you prefer.

All Reaction purchases are final and non-refundable.

Coupons can be used to get discounts on live show purchases, with the discount covered by Whatnot.

Each coupon has:

• A minimum purchase requirement
• A redemption limit of once per week

Coupons will expire in 7 days after redemption. If you cancel a purchase, the coupon used for that purchase will be forfeited. Each coupon can be used on a single purchase, and only one coupon can be applied per purchase (including coupons from sellers, reward club or other promotions).

FAQ

Why can't I see Gems?

Gem system is currently in a limited beta release and is only available to users in the UK. We will gradually roll it out to other regions in the future, so please stay tuned. 

If you are located in the UK and still cannot see it, please try updating your app to the latest version. Please note this feature is not available on the Web.

Why do my Challenges show incomplete while I actually completed it?

Challenge progress may take up to 2 minutes to update. For purchase-based challenges, free orders do not count, including giveaways and orders fully covered by credits or free shipping. If your progress still hasn't been updated after 2 minutes, please contact us for help.

We recalculate all users' task progress at the end of each day. Any task completions that were not captured in real time will be backfilled around 8:00 AM the following morning.

Why didn't the coupon apply to my purchase?

Each coupon has a minimum purchase requirement - please make sure your order qualifies. If your order does not qualify, no coupon will be applied to it. Coupons can only be used for live show purchases.

When you redeem a coupon, it will be automatically applied to your next Livestream order. However, it may be replaced if another coupon is applied later. To choose a different coupon, go to the Reward Hub (top right corner of the homepage, gift box icon) and open the Coupons tab to select the coupon you want to use.

Please note that all purchases in the Gem Store are final and not eligible for refunds.
