Buying and Gifting Items

This article discusses how you can purchase and gift items to others in a livestream or through the marketplace. 

Gifting items sold on Whatnot is a great way to support your favorite sellers or buyer community. You can gift items from a livestream or the marketplace to

• your Friends.
• people outside of Whatnot by entering their address (e.g., friends and family).
• a random viewer in a seller’s livestream. 

Gifts can only be canceled by the gifter. The giftee will not be able to cancel the gift purchase. 

Important notes:

• Gifting and receiving gifts are currently only available for users in United States, Canada, Germany, United Kingdom and France.
• Gifting is only available on the mobile app (iOS or Android). 
• You can only gift one item at a time.
• The shipping estimates might be slightly off on some gifts at checkout. 
  • Your order confirmation will reflect the accurate shipping costs. 
• Recipient must be in the same country as the seller.

How to Qualify to Receive a Gift

To qualify to receive a gift, recipients must have:

• A United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, or France street address.
  • Whatnot users must have this address attached to their account.
• Receive Gifts turned on in their account settings in order to be able to receive gifts.
  
  • Note: By opting into this, you authorize sellers to view your shipping address so they can send you the gift. 
• Be in the livestream at the time of purchase to be eligible for receiving random gifting to chat.

A user will not qualify for a gift if the user:

• is blocked by the gifter or seller.
• has blocked the gifter.
• is banned.
• is the gifter
• Is not in the same country as the seller sending the gift

Those who receive a gift will receive an email with the item tracking information. 

Allowing Others to Send You Gifts

1. Open the Whatnot app on your mobile device. 
2. Tap the profile icon in the bottom right.
   
3. Tap the Menu two-line icon in the top right.
   
4. Tap Settings. 
5. Toggle on Receive Gifts. 

Note: Allowing others to send you gifts will not allow the buyer to see your address. Sellers will be able to see your shipping address. 

Gifting Items to a Specific Whatnot User or Contact

You can gift items either to a specific qualifying Whatnot user or to an outside contact (e.g., friends and family not on Whatnot). To gift an item to a non-Whatnot user, you must provide their shipping address. 

Gifting an Item from a Livestream Shop

1. Open a seller’s livestream
2. Tap the Store icon at far right.
   
3. Go to the Buy it Now shop. 
4. Find the item you want to gift and tap Buy Now.
   
5. Tap Send as a gift?
   
6. Choose to gift an item to a Whatnot user or someone outside of Whatnot.
   1. To gift to another Whatnot user:
      1. Enter a username in the search bar and tap Search on your keyboard.
      2. Tap on the desired user.
         
   2. To gift to someone outside of Whatnot:
      1. Tap Send by Address. 
      2. Enter the gift recipient’s name and street address.
      3. Tap Add Address. 
         
7. Enter a Gift Message. 
8. Enter the gift recipient’s email address (if sending to someone outside of Whatnot).
9. (Optional) Change the From field to your name if you want. 
10. Verify your payment information.
    Note: You cannot use Paypal to purchase a gift. 
11. Tap Confirm. 

Gifting an Item from the Marketplace

1. Find and tap on an item for sale on the Marketplace. 
2. Tap Buy Now.
3. Tap Send as a gift?

4. Choose to gift an item to a Whatnot user or someone outside of Whatnot.
   1. To gift to another Whatnot user:
      1. Enter a username in the search bar and tap Search on your keyboard.
      2. Tap on the desired user.
         
   2. To gift to someone outside of Whatnot:
      1. Tap Send by Address. 
      2. Enter the gift recipient’s name and street address.
      3. Tap Add Address. 
         
5. Enter a Gift Message. 
6. (Optional) Change the From field to your name if you want. 
7. Verify your payment information.
   Note: You cannot use Paypal to purchase a gift. 
8. Tap Confirm.

Gifting an Item to a Random Viewer During a Livestream

1. Open a seller’s livestream on your mobile device.
2. Tap the Store icon in the bottom right corner.
   
3. Go to the Buy it Now shop. 
4. Find the item you want to gift and tap Buy Now. 
   
5. Tap Send as a gift?
   
6. Select Send by Chat.
   
7. Enter a Gift Message. 
8. (Optional) Change the From field to your name if you want. 
9. Verify your payment information.
   Note: You cannot use Paypal to purchase a gift. 
10. Tap Confirm. 

Once the gift is purchased, a qualifying random user will be chosen, and a notification will pop up in the seller’s livestream announcing the gift recipient. 

Note: Buyers will not be able to see the recipient’s street address.
